Some may wonder what goes on when we are not in Cambodia. In a word — plenty! There is a great deal of preparation that goes into each Cambodian trip: designing trainings, coordinating with ministries on the field, preparing materials, handling logistics, studying Khmer. Our next trip will be in July. We will be presenting seven different trainings, for eleven different schools, in five totally different locations, one of which is a floating school on lake Tonle Sap. So, there’s more than enough to keep us busy every day!
We’re especially excited about this next trip, because we will be distributing books to one of our schools in Battambang for use in their classrooms. You may remember that we planned to use the proceeds from Kirsten’s book, Remember Me, to purchase 50 books for 50 classrooms. Well, we are beginning now by delivering books to Kingdom School! We are also designing a brand new training to prepare the teachers, so they can use these materials well, and Teach Like a Christian — as always.
We also mentor administrators — online. Layvin is the principal at the Kingdom School I mentioned. She is wrapping up her first year as principal. She is young, but intelligent, determined and, above all, Christian. We have been meeting with her regularly for about two years now, at first to prepare her for what at that time was her upcoming role as principal, and then this year to help her through the bumps and bruises of her first year. Her leadership is vital to the Christian mission of that school, and we feel honored to support her.
